University Prep Science and Math Middle School (UPSM) is a part of the University Preparatory Academy (UPA) of charter schools in Detroit. UPA are 90/90 schools, with a 90% minimum graduation rate and a minimum of 90% of graduates enrolling in college. UPA was established by the Thompson Foundation with the mission to prove that urban children can succeed in college through personalized learning and relentless commitment to their success.

UPSM is a partnership between University Prep Academy and the Detroit Science Center. The curriculum of this middle school focuses on math, science and engineering. UPSM provides students with a sound education within an exciting environment that encourages learning. Ciel was retained by UPSM to develop a series of communications vehicles to build awareness and ultimately develop enrollment. The program involved brochures, displays and development communications. Due to UPSM's student outreach in the community, the materials were created in English, Spanish and Arabic.

Our objective was to accurately present UPSM as a premier school system. One way we were able to gain awareness and create that standing was by leveraging the well-established design equities from UPSM's partner, the prestigious Detroit Science Center. Incorporating the graphic elements, color palette and fonts lent UPSM immediate recognition and status. The 2008-09 school year enrollment reached capacity.
